Words and Photos by Emma Hintz

What can I say? It’s good to be back.

I’ve got a couple of updates for those who want them. I went through an extremely traumatic, life altering event: my childhood home was flooded and many of my belongings were ruined last September by the most devastating hurricane in Tampa Bay’s recent history, Hurricane Helene. This happened right before I left for my very first tour. Touring has always been a dream for me, but, to be so honest, the storm really dampened things for me. My spirits were crushed, which is a rare thing for me, as I’m normally a pretty optimistic person, even when things feel hopeless. As much as the hurricane and its timing sucked, it did push me to finally pull the trigger and do something I’ve always wanted to do: move to New York City. As I’m writing this, I’ve lived in NYC for about four months, and I've been having a great time! But I felt as though something was missing, and I finally realized what it was: Small Talks. I’ve been really wanting to bring Small Talks back for forever, but I didn’t feel like I could do it alone. Thank God I don’t have to.

Bringing in Josh and Jennifer was not just necessary, but something I’ve been yearning for for a while. I look up to them both as creatives and feel honored to have them in my corner. It’s not every day you meet people that are on exactly the same page as you. When you know you know!

Alvin, Simon, Theodore!

My goal with Small Talks has always been highlighting the people who inspire me, be they musicians, photographers, or even tour managers. I wanted to create a space designed to celebrate those who may not always be given the spotlight they deserve. My hope is that Small Talks can do for its readers what it has done for me. I’ve met some of the most amazing people through this work, people who inspire and push me everyday. I want the people at home to read a feature and discover their new favorite artist or hire and support a new photographer with unmistakable talent. I want Small Talks to be more than just another music publication; I want to create a community for anyone to join and visit when they feel stuck.

Since I started Small Talks in 2019, it has changed many times. The version we’re creating now is just what I have always envisioned. I just needed the right people in my corner, having my back. Small Talks is back, baby! It’s a miracle!

These photos were taken in one of my favorite places, Cellar Masters in Saint Petersburg, FL.

Keep up with Emma, Josh and Jennifer.

So much more to come, talk so soon.
