This week, face of ancient gallery released “Like Kites”, the first single from their upcoming album of the same name. The full record, their sophomore album and debut on record label Good English, is due out May 1st.

face of ancient gallery is the solo project of guitarist and songwriter Jeremy Mock, known for his work with bloodsports, People I Love, and Wesley Wolffe. Like Kites is the follow up to face of ancient gallery’s self-titled debut album.

The first time I listened to “Like Kites”, I had to sit down and replay it over and over again. It was never long enough; I just wanted to hear it going forever and ever. The second the cello came in I was ready to stand up and start clapping. It’s a beautiful song, haunting in a way, and so simple despite the intricacy of all of its moving parts.

Mock recorded the track at home with help from his friends and family: his sister Sophia Mock provided background vocals, Chicago-based artist Chaepter plays the cello, Dan Poppa of People I Love contributed electric guitar, and Jonathan Bailey is credited with production. Learning that this song is the product of collaboration between loved ones and confidantes made it feel even more special - it may even be the reason it all works so well.

We at Small Talks are very much looking forward to listening to the entirety of Like Kites on May 1st, and we think you should be, too. Pre-order the album here
